How Often Should You Service Your Car in Dubai's Heat

GearVolt Team4 min readMaintenance

The service schedule that came with your car was written for a temperate climate. Dubai is not that. When ambient temperatures regularly hit 45 degrees and your car sits in an outdoor parking bay for hours, things wear out faster than the handbook says they will.

This is not a scare story. It is just the reality of running a car in this part of the world, and knowing which things need more attention can save you a significant repair bill down the line.

Engine oil

In Europe or the US, 10,000 to 15,000 kilometres between oil changes is standard. In Dubai, most experienced technicians recommend not going beyond 7,500 kilometres, and closer to 5,000 if you spend a lot of time in stop-start traffic. Heat breaks down oil faster. An engine running in constant high temperatures with degraded oil is on a short path to expensive repairs.

If your car uses a synthetic oil, you have a bit more leeway. But the point stands — the standard interval is too long for Dubai conditions.

Coolant and cooling system

Your cooling system works harder here than almost anywhere else. The coolant itself does not need changing as often as the oil, but the system needs checking regularly. A cooling system that is slightly under pressure or has a small leak is manageable in a mild climate. In Dubai summer, it becomes a breakdown waiting to happen.

Check your coolant level monthly. If it is dropping even slowly, get it looked at before summer.

Tyres

Heat is hard on rubber. Tyre pressure fluctuates with temperature — a tyre that is correctly inflated in the morning can be over-inflated by afternoon after sitting in direct sun. More importantly, the UAE heat accelerates the ageing of the rubber compound itself. A tyre can look fine visually and still be brittle and unsafe.

Check tyre pressure weekly, not monthly. And do not wait for visible wear to consider replacement — if the tyres are more than four years old, get them inspected regardless of the tread depth.

Brake fluid

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, and moisture lowers its boiling point. In Dubai's heat, especially with the stop-start driving patterns in the city, brake fluid should be flushed every two years as a minimum. Some workshops recommend annually.

Air conditioning

The AC in Dubai is not a comfort feature — it is a necessity. It also works harder than any car's AC was designed for. Gas recharges, cabin filter replacements and checking the condenser for blockage should all be part of your annual routine, not something you wait to do when the system stops performing.

The honest version of a service schedule for Dubai

Oil and filter: every 5,000 to 7,500km. Tyres: check pressure weekly, inspect condition every 6 months. Brake fluid: every 12 to 18 months. AC: annual service or when you notice it underperforming. Cooling system: check monthly, full inspection before summer.

None of this is complicated. It is just a bit more frequent than what the handbook says, adjusted for where you actually live.
